Rain affected Wednesday’s second round matches of the €127,000 Peako Szczecin Open with some of them finishing late in the evening.

Jerzy Janowicz edged past Frenchman Kenny de Schepper 6-1, 7-6. The sixth seed from Poland won 77 per cent of his first service points and 56 per cent of the total points played to set a quarterfinal clash with second favourite Florian Mayer after one hour and 23 minutes.

Mayer beats Goncalo Oliveira from Portugal 6-4, 6-4. The German veteran didn’t face a break point, converting two of his own 10 chances to secure victory in one hour and 15 minutes.

Earlier in the day, Bjorn Fratangelo rallied back from a set down to overcome Belgian Julien Cagnina 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. The 24-year-old US-American will next take on Taro Daniel of Japan. The World No. 124 knocked off the tournament’s number eight Renzo Olivo from Argentina 7-5, 7-5 after two hours and 20 minutes.

Top seed Richard Gasquet, who particpated at Kids’ Day on Wednesday, playing some tennis and meeting some fans, will be back in action on Thursday. The World No. 30 will face #NextGen Spaniard Bernabé Zapata Miralles for a place in the stage of the final eight.
