QUÉBEC CITY, September 17, 2017
Third favourite Timea Babos of Hungary will meet the tournament’s No. 7 Alison Van Uytvanck in her second WTA final of the year at the National Bank Cup by IGA in Québec City after edging past top seed Lucie Safarova from the Czech Republic in straight sets on Saturday.
Babos served strong, fired 10 aces, didn’t face one single break point and capitalized on one of her own to seal a 7-6, 6-4 win in one hour and 40 minutes.
Van Uytvanck saved the only break point she faced in her semi-final encounter with fourth seed Tatjana Maria of Germany. The 23-year-old from Belgium scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory after 67 minutes.
“I played very well from start to finish. I had a plan in my head and I executed it really well. I am very proud and happy to be in the final,” Van Uytvanck said. “I had to be patient all while staying aggressive. I didn’t let her into the match, I came to the net a lot. It was a perfect match and I didn’t leave a lot of energy on the court which is good preparation for the final.”
