Kevin King defeated Cameron Norrie of Great Britain in a decisive straight set 6-4, 6-1 win to claim his first ATP Challenger title at the $50,000 Atlantic Tire Championships on Sunday.

The 26-year-old US-American sent down eight aces, winning 81 per cent of his first service points to secure victory in 63 minutes.

This was King’s second tournament appearance, having reached the quarterfinals in 2015. King, who trained at Cary Tennis Park for four years, thanked the crowd for their support in helping him through the week’s tough matches. On his way to the Championship match, King defeated two seeded players, No.1 Ernesto Escobedo, and No.6 Noah Rubin.

He takes away $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points.

The pair of Marcelo Arevalo from El Salvador and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela of Mexico claimed their third consecutive Challenger doubles title, having just won titles in Colombia and Ecuador. Their match against US-American Dennis Novikov and Mikelis Libietis of Latvia lasted almost two hours and consisted of three tie-breaks. In the match tie-break, Arevalo and Reyes-Varela won almost 90 per cent of their service points.
