SIBIU, September 23, 2017

Top seed Cedrik-Marcel Stebe and Spanish #NextGenATP player Carlos Taberner will go head to head in Sunday’s final of the €43,000 Sibiu Open.

Due to bad weather on Friday, the World No. 90 from Germany had to play two matches on Saturday, where he had eased past Stefano Napolitano of Italy 6-0, 6-3 before he beat his compatriot Maximilian Marterer 6-2, 6-1. Stebe was in total control of the encounter, capitalizing on both of his break points to advance in only 53 minutes.

Taberner also remained untroubled, beating local favourite Adrian Ungur 6-3, 6-0. The 20-year-old Spaniard won 63 per cent of the total points played to secure a 6-3, 6-0 victory in 63 minutes. After finishing runner-up to Marterer in Banja Luka last Sunday, Taberner advanced to his second ATP Challenger final within two weeks without dropping a set.

Stebe and Taberner will meet for the first time. The German could clinch his third ATP Challenger title of the season folowing his triumphs in Vancouver and Poprad Tatry. Taberner eyes his first crown.

Elsewhere, Marco Cecchinato and Matteo Donati clinched the doubles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Belgians Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen. The Italians finished the final after 48 minutes.
