The quarterfinals of the $100,000 Tiburon Challenger are set. Second seed Tennys Sandgren beat Canadian Brayden Schnur 6-1, 7-6 on Thursday.
The World No. 104 sent down six aces, winning 71 per cent of his first service points and 56 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 27 minutes. Next up for Sandgren will be fellow US-American Christian Harrison. The 23-year-old wild card entry edged past Jan Choinski from Germany 6-4, 7-6.
Alejandro Gonzalez knocked out the tournament’s number three Quentin Halys of France 6-4, 6-3. The 28-year-old from Colombia capitalized on three of his seven break points to prevail after 70 minutes. Gonzalez will next face Mackenzie McDonald.
