Elias Ymer headlined Tuesday’s first round action at the $100,000 Stockton Challenger with a 7-5, 6-3 upset win over top seed Ruben Bemelmans from Belgium.

The #NextGenATP player from Sweden capitalized on six of his nine break point chanes and won 56 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 22 minutes. Ymer will next take on Frank Dancevic of Canada, who beat US-American qualifier Sekou Bangoura 6-4, 6-0.

Tennys Sandgren opened his title bid with 7-5, 7-5 win over Christopher O’Connell from Australia. The second favourite from the United States and runner-up of last week’s ATP Challenger in Tiburon sent down seven aces, winning 73 per cent of his first service points to prevail after one hour and 45 minutes. Next up for Sandgren will be Liam Broady of Great Britain.

Tiburon Challenger champion Cameron Norrie continued his winning streak with a first round success over US-American Deiton Baughman. The 22-year-old Briton saved three of the four break points he faced, converting five of his own. Norrie finished the encounter after 66 minutes to face compatriot Brydan Klein next.
