The 24-year-old German fired 13 aces, winning 84 per cent of his first service points to prevail after one hour and 32 minutes. Next up for Otte will be Lorenzo Sonego of Italy, who beat his compatriot Matteo Viola 6-4, 6-1.

Wild card entry Matteo Donati knocked out defending champion Stefano Napolitano. The 22-year-old Italian won 5 points more than his opponent to celebrate a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win after two hours and nine minutes. Donati will next face either local favourite Andreas Seppi or Salvatore Caruso.
