Brown Battles Past Moraing To Reach Second Round In Ismaning

Seven German players were in singles action on Tuesday at the €43,000 WOLFFKRAN Open 17. Five of them advanced to the second round at the Sportpark in Ismaning.

Second seed Dustin Brown fought back from a set down to overcome fellow German Mats Moraing 6-7, 7-6, 6-1. The World No. 123 saved one match point in the second set and fired 23 aces to prevail after one hour and 38 minutes.

Brown will next play Tobias Simon, who emerged victorious from the battle of the qualifiers with Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler 6-3, 4-6, 7-6. The 26-year-old from Munich hit 19 aces, winning 88 per cent of his first service points to secure victory in two hours and two minutes.

Third favourite Yannick Hanfmann benefited from the retirement of Marek Jaloviec leading 7-6, 4-1. The World No. 132 from Karsruhe advanced after 58 minutes.

Hanfmann will next take on compatriot Jeremy Jahn, who fought past Laurynas Grigelis of Lithuania 7-6, 3-6, 7-6. The encounter lasted exactly two hours of play.

Matthias Bachinger cruised past Yannick Vandenbulcke of Belgium 6-2, 6-0. The World No. 195 from Munich saved all four break points he faced, capitalizing on five of his own to reach the second round in only 56 minutes. Bachinger will next challenge Polish qualifier Hubert Hurkacz.

Marterer Withdraws With Illness

Top seed Maximilian Marterer, who broke into the Top 100 for the first time, was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to fever. He will be replaced by German lucky loser Mats Rosenkranz, who will face Matteo Donati of Italy in the first round.
