Marta Kostyuk hoisted the girls’ trophy at the ITF Junior Masters held at the Sichuan International Tennis Center in Chengdu. The 15-year-old from the Ukraine celebrated a 6-4, 6-3 win in Sunday’s final over Kaja Juvan of Slovenia.

Kostyuk trailed in both sets but fought her way back to clinch the crown against an opponent she had defeated earlier in the week.

“I actually have no idea how I won the first set,” remarked the World No. 3 in the junior’s rankings. “It was so fast you know, everything, I started to lose fast and then I won fast.”

“I felt pretty good at the beginning,” reflected Juvan.

“But then something flipped in my head, and I was very tired from the whole week, I guess my head wasn’t quite as strong as I wanted it to be and it kind of went down.”

Emil Ruusuvuori became the champion of the boys’ competition. The 18-year-old Finn prevailed in the final 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 against Chinese prodigy and World No. 1 Yibing Wu.
