ECKENTAL, November 2, 2017
Four players have completed the quarterfinals line-up of the €43,000 Bauer Watertechnology Cup in Eckental on Thursday. Second seed Maximilian Marterer headlined the action when he battled past Italian Simone Bolelli 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
The 22-year-old German fired 17 aces, winning 78 per cent of his first service points to seal victory in two hours and 29 minutes. Marterer will take on #NextGenATP Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the stage of the final eight. Moutet benefited from the retirement of Swiss lucky loser Yann Marti, leading 6-2, 3-0 after just under one hour of play
Matthias Bachinger has made a flying start to the ATP Challenger event. After dismissing teenager Daniel Altmaier for the loss of just four games in the first round at the House of Sports, the 30-year-old ousted fellow German and fifth seed Dustin Brown 6-0, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals.
Bachinger, who clinched his fourth Challenger title in Gwangju three weeks ago, saved all three break points he faced, converting four of his own to advance in only 53 minutes. The right-hander from Munich will next face Australian young gun Alex de Minaur. The 18-year-old knocked out former World No. 5, Tommy Robredo, in Wednesday’s evening match.
Seventh favourite Jerzy Janowicz of Poland defeated Igor Sijsling from the Netherlands 7-6, 6-3 to meet top seed Ruben Bemelmans from Belgium.
