KNOXVILLE, November 12, 2017
Denis Kudla and Filip Peliwo will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the $75,000 Knoxville Challenger held at the University of Tennessee Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center.
Peliwo, who battled through the qualifying, knocked out second seed Henri Laaksonen of Switzerland 6-3, 6-0. The 23-year-old Canadian capitalized on five of his eight break point chances to advance to his very first ATP Challenger final in only 45 minutes.
Kudla rallied from a set down to overcome fellow US-American Bradley Klahn 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. The World No. 207 from Florida sent down five aces, winning 62 per cent of his first service points to prevail after one hour and 55 minutes.
Kudla won the only previous meeting between the two in the qualifying at Wimbledon 2013 in three sets. The 25-year-old US-American eyes his sixth ATP Challenger Tour title, his first since his 2015 triumph on grass in Ilkley.
