The bottom half of the draw was in second round action on Thursday at the €43,000 Internazionali Città di Brescia led by fourth seed Lukas Lacko. The 30-year-old from Slovakia defeated Italian lucky loser Giovanni Fonio 6-4, 6-3.
The reigning Bratislava Challenger champion won 89 per cent of his first service points and capitalized on three of his nine break point chances to prevail in exactly one hour of play. Lacko will next take on Stefano Travaglia. The sixth favourite emerged victorious from the all-Italian-affair with Filippo Baldi 7-6, 6-3.
Mirza Basic rallied past Jurgen Zopp of Estonia 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. The eighth seed from Bosnia and Herzegovina withstood 20 aces and struck eight of his own to secure victory in one hour and 28 minutes. Basic will next face Australian teenager Alex de Minaur. The 18-year-old Sydney native broke serve four times to beat Patrik Nema from Slovakia 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 after one hour and 48 minutes.
