Five players completed the quarterfinals line-up of the €43,000 Andria e Castel del Monte Challenger on Thursday. Viktor Galovic ended the good run of Italian qualifier Gianluca di Nicola with a 6-4, 7-6 win. The sixth seed from Croatia fired 14 aces, winning 85 per cent of his first service points and converted two of his eight break point chances to secure victory in one hour and 19 minutes.
Galovic will face Mirza Basic in the stage of the final eight. The third seed from Bosnia and Herzegovina edged past Evgeny Karlovskiy of Russia 7-6, 6-4. Basic didn’t face a break point, capitalizing on one of his own to prevail in one hour and 10 minutes.
Wild card entry Filippo Baldi emgerged victorious from the all-Italian-affair with Lorenzo Sonego, winning 6-4, 6-4 to take on compatriot Andrea Pellegrino next.
Franko Skugor defeated Alessandro Basso 7-6, 3-6, 6-3. The 30-year-old Croat will challenge fifth favourite Uladzimir Ignatik from Belarus in the quarterfinals.
