Christopher Heyman and Uladzimir Ignatik will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the €43,000 Andria e Castel del Monte Challenger. Heyman, who battled through the qualifying and is playing his first main draw at ATP Challenger level, upset the tournament’s number three Mirza Basic 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 on Saturday afternoon.
The World No. 351 from Belgium sent down 11 aces, winning 86 per cent of his first service points and broke his opponent two times to prevail after one hour and 53 minutes.
Ignatik fought past Italian wild card entry Filippo Baldi 6-7, 7-6, 7-6. The fifth seed from Belarus won four points more than his opponent to secure victory in two hours and 34 minutes.
Ignatik, who eyes his second ATP Challenger title of the season, and Heyman will meet for the first time.
Later in the day, Italians Lorenzo Sonego and Andrea Vavassori captured the doubles title. The unseeded pair beat top seeds Sander Arends from the Netherlands and Sander Gille of Belgium 6-3, 3-6, 10-7. The final lasted just under one hour of play.
