Alexander Ward clinched his first title of the season, lifting the trophy of the $25,000 Columbus Men’s Futures held at the Indoor Tennis Center of the Ohio State University. The fifth seed emerged victorious from Sunday’s all-British-final with Luke Bambridge 6-4, 6-4.
Ward didn’t face a break point, capitalizing on two of his own opportunities to prevail after one hour and 18 minutes. It was his 15th triumph in singles at the ITF Pro Circuit. Ward won his last title in Tunisia last year.
The 27-year-old Northampton native takes away $3,600 in prize money as well as 25 ATP ranking points.
On Saturday, top seeds Hans Hach Verdugo from Mexico and Luis David Martinez clinched the doubles crown with a 3-6, 7-6, 10-7 win over second favourites Luke Bambridge and Edward Corrie of Great Britain. The final lasted one hour and 15 minutes.
