US-American qualifier Danny Thomas and fifth seed Alexander Ward will compete in Saturday’s singles final of the $25,000 Oracle USTA Pro Circuit Collegiate Series, held at the Hurd Tennis Center of the Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
Thomas emerged victorious from the all-US-American-affair with seventh favourite Ryan Shane, rallying 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. The 18-year-old broke serve five times to prevail after two hours and one minute.
Thomas will play his first ITF Pro Circuit title match taking on Alexander Ward for the first time. The World No. 373 from Great Britain, who clinched his first title of the season in Columbus last weekend, defeated US-American qualifier Trevor Allen Johnson 6-2, 7-5 in one hour and 28 minutes.
Later on Friday, Julian Lenz of Germany and Roberto Maytin from Colombia captured the doubles title. The third seeds upset the top seeded US-Americans Nathanial Lammons and Alex Lawson 7-6, 1-6, 14-12. The encounter lasted one hour and 34 minutes.
