World No.16 Andy Murray has been forced to withdraw from the 2018 Brisbane International presented by Suncorp due to pain in his right hip.

Murray has withdrawn from the tournament, but will stay in Brisbane as he works towards returning to the tennis circuit.

“I’m very disappointed to be withdrawing from the Brisbane International,” said Murray.

“I came here with every intention of making a strong start to the year, but sadly my team and I don’t feel that I’m where I need to be just yet to compete at the highest level.

“I have great memories of playing here in Brisbane and I have always enjoyed competing in front of the Queensland fans, so look forward to returning in the near future.”

Cameron Pearson, Tournament Director of the Brisbane International,wished Murray well as he continues his rehabilitation.

“I’m really disappointed for Andy, as I know how much he was looking forward to getting his season started in Brisbane,” he said.

“As a two-time former champion, he has great memories of playing on Pat Rafter Arena and thrilling his fans. I wish him all the best to be ready to play the Australian Open.

“It’s been a great start to the Brisbane International, and we’re looking forward to seeing more exciting action to come with Australia’s No.1 male Nick Kyrgios taking on his fellow Aussie Matt Ebden on Pat Rafter Arena tomorrow.

“Our defending champions, World No.3 Grigor Dimitrov and Karolina Pliskova, are also hitting Pat Rafter Arena soon for their first matches as the tournament builds towards the much-anticipated finals,” said Pearson.
