Granollers Back In The Winner’s Circle

BANGKOK, January 7, 2018

Marcel Granollers has captured his first ATP Challenger title since lifting the trophy in Irving 2016. The 31-year-old from Spain rallied past German qualifier Mats Moraing 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 to win the $50,000 KPN Academy-Usierra Bangkok Open 2018 on Sunday.

Granollers, who is seeded sixth in Thailand and advanced to the final without dropping a set, won 75 per cent of his first service points and broke serve three times to prevail after two hours and 34 minutes.

The former World No. 19 lifted four ATP World Tour titles in his career and has now added his fifth ATP Challenger crown. Granollers earns $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points.

The ATP Challenger Tour will stay in Thailand for another hard court event in Bangkok next week. Granollers will be the top seed, facing local wild card entry Pol Wattanakul in the opening round. Moraing, this time sixth seed of the draw, will take on a qualifier.
