Pedro Martínez headlined second round action at the $50,000 Bangkok Open when he rallied past fellow Spaniard Gerard Granollers 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 on Wednesday.
The third seed broke serve six times and won 11 points more than his opponent to reach the quarterfinals of the ATP Challenger hard court event after two hours and 18 minutes. Martínez will next take on Mats Moraing of Germany. The sixth favourite, who finished runner-up to Marcel Granollers at the tournament last week here in Bangkok, beat local wild card entry Pruchya Isaro 6-2, 6-3. The encounter lasted 64 minutes.
Evgeny Karlovskiy of Russia defeated Danish qualifier Frederik Nielsen 6-4, 6-2 to meet Bernabé Zapata Miralles of Spain in the stage of the final eight. The World No. 305 edged past Marsel Ilhan from Turkey 6-3, 6-3 in one hour and five minutes.
