Australia And Germany Level After Opening Day In Brisbane

Nick Kyrgios has levelled the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group First Round tie between Australia and Germany with a convincing win on Day 1.

The world No.14 defeated Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 with the two countries heading into the second day of play tied at 1-1.

Earlier on Friday, 18-year-old Alex De Minaur pushed world No.5 Alexander Zverev to five sets before the match was decided in a tiebreak to the away side, winning 7-5, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6.

“I hope that will be the deciding point to get the win,’’ said Zverev. “We need three points, we’ve got one. We’ve got two more to go.’’
