The quarterfinals of the $25,000 Tennis ITF Pro Open Aargau are complete and none of the seeded players is left in the singles draw. Swiss wild card enty Jakub Paul delighted the home crowd with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 upset over No. 5 seed Daniel Masur from Germany on Thursday.

The 18-year-old from Chur won one point less than his opponent but gained the decisive break in the final set to secure victory two hours and 10 minutes. Paul will appear in the stage of the final eight at Futures-level for the second time since November 2017 at Thu Dau Mot City in Vietnam. The teenager will next challenge Sami Reinwein of Germany.

Julian Lenz knocked out the tournament’s No. 4 Albano Olivetti from France. The 24-year-old German, who is currently ranked on career high World No. 498, rallied from a set down to secure a 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 win after three hours of play. Next up for Lenz will be compatriot Tobias Simon. The pair will meet for the first time.

Later in the afternoon, third seed Andrea Basso of Italy fell to French qualifier Maxime Tchoutakian 6-7, 6-3, 6-2. The 24-year-old withstood 14 aces, hitting four of his own to prevail after two hours and 28 minutes. Tchoutakian will next take on Marc-Andre Huesler of Switzerland.

In the remaining quarterfinal match-up, German qualifier Valentin Günther, who edged past reigning Wimbledon juniors champion Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, will face Gregoire Jacq of France, who upset top seeded Belgian Christopher Heyman in the opening round.
