Appearing in his only fifth main draw on the ITF Pro Circuit, Swiss teenager Jakub Paul advanced to his first semi-final. The 18-year-old from Chur edged past Germany’s Sami Reinwein 6-3, 6-4 on Friday afternoon at the $25,000 Tennis Pro Open Aargau held on indoor carpet in Oberentfelden.
Paul struck eight aces, winning 86 per cent of his first service points to secure victory in one hour and 13 minutes. Next up for the World No. 1096 will be French qualifier Maxime Tchoutakian. The 24-year-old fougth past Marc-Andrea Huesler from Switzerland 5-7, 7-5, 7-6. The battle lasted two hours and 43 minutes.
Tobias Simon emerged victorious from the all-German-affair with Julian 7-6, 6-4. The World No. 509 and highest ranked player left in the singles draw fired 20 aces to finish the encounter in one hour and 25 minutes. Simon will next take on Frenchman Gregoire Jacq, who benefited from the retirment of German qualifier Valentin Günther leading 6-2, 2-0.
