SAN FRANCISCO, February 12, 2018
Jason Jung claimed the title of the $100,000 Kunal Patel San Francisco Open held at The Bay Club in San Francisco. The 28-year-old from Chinese Taipei battled past Dominik Koepfer of Germany 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 in Sunday’s final between two unseeded players.
Jung broke serve three time, won six points less than his opponent, but clinched the tie-break of the final set 7-5 to prevail after two hours and five minutes.
He earns $14,400 in prize money as well as 90 ATP ranking points. Jung, who has returned to the Top 200 or the ATP rankings, hoisted his third ATP Challenger trophy following his triumphs in Zhangjiagang last year and Chengdu in 2016.
Earlier in the day, Marcelo Arevalo from El Salvador and Roberto Maytin of Venezuela captured the doubles title. They defeated the all-British-combination of Luke Bambridge and Joe Salisbury 6-3, 6-7, 10-7 in the final. The encounter lasted one hour and 14 minutes.
