Scott Griekspoor of the Netherlands captured the title of the first $15,000 Qatar ITF Futures 2018 held on hard courts at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha. The No. 3 seed defeated the tournament’s No. 6 Fajing Sun of China in the singles final on Saturday afternoon.
Griekspoor won 86 per cent of his first service points and broke his opponent’s serve three times to prevail after one hour and 14 minutes. The 27-year-old lifted his second ITF Pro Circuit title of the season following his triumph in Glasgow one month ago. Griekspoor takes away $2,160 in prize money as well as 18 ATP ranking points.
On Friday, Jonas Merckx from Belgium and Fred Simonsson of Sweden clinched the doubles crown, rallying past Belgian Zizou Bergs and Scott Griekspoor 6-7, 6-3, 10-4. The final lasted one hour and 30 minutes.
