LONDON, March 6, 2018 (Press Release)
The 2012 champion Marin Cilic and 2014 winner Grigor Dimitrov have signed up to play in The Queen’s Club Championships, 18th-24th June.
As tickets went on general sale, Cilic and Dimitrov added their names to those of World No.2 Rafael Nadal and 5-time champion Andy Murray in declaring their intention to compete for the iconic silver trophy.
The addition of World No.3 Cilic and No.4 Dimitrov means that 3 of the current Top 4 players in the ATP rankings are intending to play at The Queen’s Club.
“The Queen’s Club Championships is one of the best tournaments that we play, I am proud to have won it and I want to win it again” said Cilic, who narrowly missed out last year after holding match point in the final against Feliciano Lopez. “I have been playing the event since I was very young and they even gave me a wild card in my first year, so it has always been a special place for me.”
Cilic went on to reach both the Wimbledon final last year, and the Australian Open final in January as he tries to add to his sole Grand Slam title to-date – the US Open of 2014.
Many of the happiest moments of Dimitrov’s career have taken place in London. He won the Wimbledon boys title in 2008, lifted the Queen’s trophy in 2014, made the semis of the Gentlemen’s Singles at Wimbledon a few weeks later, and captured the Nitto ATP World Tour Finals title in November last year.
“The Queen’s Club Championships is one of my favourite tournaments, there’s so much history at the event and grass is one of the best times of the year,” said Dimitrov. “Now that I have the 02 title, I am motivated to do even better at Queen’s and Wimbledon this year.”
Tournament Director Stephen Farrow said: “Marin and Grigor were both given wild cards into The Queen’s Club Championships in their formative years and they have repaid that faith handsomely by returning year after year, winning the title and going on to have fantastic careers. We have 3 of the world’s top 4 ranked players in the line-up already, Andy Murray planning to be back in time to play in June, and demand for tickets is higher than ever before.”
