Benjamin Hassan of Germany captured the title of the second $15,000 Qatar ITF Futures 2018 held on hard courts at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha. The fifth seed upset the tournament’s No. 1 Jay Clarke of Great Britain in Saturday’s singles final 3-6, 7-6, 6-4.
Hassan sent down five aces, winning 64 per cent of his first service points to seal victory in two hours and 24 minutes. By lifting his maiden ITF Pro Circuit trophy, the 23-year-old takes away $2,160 in prize money as well as 18 ATP ranking points. Hassan is ranked on a personal career high World No. 504.
On Friday, Zizou Bergs of Belgium and Fred Simonsson from Sweden took the doubles title. The tandem defeated the Czech top seeds Marek Gengel and Matej Vocel 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. The encounter lasted one hour and 18 minutes.
