NÜRNBERG, March 15, 2018
Organizers of the NÜRNBERGER Versicherungscup announced on Thursday that Judy Murray will return to the WTA International event for the second consecutive year. The tournament will be held at the venue of the 1. Fc Nürnberg from 19 to 26 May 2018.
The mother of Andy and Jamie Murray will host a workshop for coaches and youth workers on Pentecost Sunday followed by a kids’ clinic for girls between six and 10 years on Whit Monday. In addition, a talk is planned in which Barbara Rittner, Head of Women’s Tennis of the German Tennis Federation DTB, will participate.
“I’m really looking forward to being back at the NÜRNBERGER Versicherungscup,” says Murray. “It was a lot of fun to practice with the girls from the region last year and it’s great that the tournament gives so many young players the chance to be part of a WTA event that features the world’s best stars.” Murray has developed a successful program in the UK under the label “Miss Hits”, which aims to encourage more girls to play tennis and offers tailor-made training courses. Miss Hits is also the basis of the workshop on Sunday and for the two training camps on Monday.
Tournament director Sandra Reichel commented: “Judy is an outstanding figure in tennis and a highly respected expert. Her commitment last year was impressive to watch. Therefore it is great to see that she will return to Nürnberg this year.”
