The quarterfinals of the Visit Panamá Tennis Cup are set. No. 3 seed Yannick Hanfmann is the highest ranked player left in the singles draw of the $50,000 ATP Challenger event. The 26-year-old German eased past Facundo Bagnis of Argentina 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday.

Hanfmann won 88 per cent of his first service points, didn’t face a break point and converted three of his own six chances to advance in one hour and 11 minutes. In his first quarterfinal of the season, the World No. 121 will take on Blaz Rola of Slovenia, who finished runner-up in 2014.

Argentine veteran Carlos Berlocq defeated Andrea Basso of Italy 6-2, 6-4. The No. 4 seed outpointed his opponent 71-56 to seal victory in one hour and 48 minutes. Next up for Berlocq will be José Hernandez-Fernandez from the Domenican Republic. The 28-year-old from Santo Domingo knocked out the tournament’s No. 8 Mitchell Krueger from the United States 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Colombian qualifier Cristian Rodriguez continued his good run of form with a 6-3, 7-6 win over No. 6 seed Renzo Olivo of Argentina. The World No. 390 won 53 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 48 minutes. Rodriguez will next challenge Olivo’s compatriot Andrea Collarini.

Jan Choinski of Germany and Argentine qualifier Juan Ignacio Londero will square off in the last encounter in the quarterfinals.
