MILAN, June 28, 2015
Federico Delbonis defeated Rogerio Dutra Silva in an all-South-American-final at the Aspria Tennis Cup in Milan. The second-seeded Argentine beat the Brazilian qualifier, winning 6-1, 7-6.
In their first tour meeting in front of about 800 spectators Delbonis hit four aces, saved five of seven break points he faced and capitalized on four of his own to seal victory in one hour and 31 minutes.
Without dropping a set, the world number 82 captured his sixth ATP Challenger career title, the second of the season, following his triumph on the green clay in Sarasota.
The 24-year-old from Azul took away 80 ATP ranking points and € 6,150 in prize money. Delbonis will only have a couple of hours to adapt to Wimbledon’s grass courts, where he will face Grigor Dimitrov on Monday’s third match on Court No. 1.
“It was amazing. I want to thank my team,” a happy winner told afterwards. “Tonight I will try to recover and tomorrow in London I will just try to enjoy the match. I have no pressure.”
Nikola Mektic and Antonio Sancic claimed the doubles title in Milan, winning the final 6-3, 6-4 against Christian Garin and Juan Carlos Saez in 68 minutes.
