Australia And Netherlands Level After Day One Of Fed Cup

WOLLONGONG, April 21, 2018

The scores are level at one-all for Australia and the Netherlands after the first day of play in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group Play-off in Wollongong.

In a surprise upset Dutch No.1 Lesley Kerkhove defeated Aussie Samantha Stosur 7-5, 7-6(1) in front of 3,729 spectators at Wollongong Entertainment Centre.

In the second match, world No. 19 Ashleigh Barty scored a decisive  6-0, 6-2 win over Quirine Lemoine to level the tie.

In Sunday’s reverse singles Barty will face Dutch No.1 Kerkhove, with world No.24 Daria Gavrilova named to play the second singles rubber against Quirine Lemoine.

The doubles nominations remain unchanged with Ashleigh Barty / Samantha Stosur to take on Dutch pair Demi Schuurs and Indy De Vroome.
