CASCAIS, April 24, 2018
A Portuguese champion was guaranteed ahead of Sunday’s singles final of the $25,000 Cascais NextGen Tour held on clay at the Carcavelos Tennis in Cascais, as No. 5 seed Frederico Ferreira Silva took on 20-year-old wild card entry Tiago Cação. The favourite emerged victorious, winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Ferreira Silva broke his young opponent five times to prevail after exactly two hours of play. The 23-year-old leftie captured his third ITF Pro Circuit title of the season, his 13th overall. Ferreira Silva won on home soil in Vale Do Lobo and Loulé and already equaled his record of the year 2015, in which he won three Futures titles.
He earns $3,600 in prize money as well as 25 ATP ranking points. Thanks to his good results, the Portuguese was awarded a wild card into the ATP 250 Millennium Open in Estoril next week.
