Del Potro Joins Fever-Tree Championships Line-Up

Juan Martin Del Potro

LONDON, April 26, 2018 (Press Release)

The World No.6 Juan Martin del Potro is the latest big name to join a star-studded line-up of players intending to compete in this year’s Fever-Tree Championships at The Queen’s Club.

He joins World No.1 Rafael Nadal and five-time champion Andy Murray in the field, as well as champions Marin Cilic, Grigor Dimitrov and Feliciano López.

Del Potro has been one of the in-form players of 2018, winning 15 matches in a row on his way to successive titles in Acapulco and Indian Wells, and establishing a 21-4 win-loss record.

The Argentine, who won the US Open in 2009 before suffering terrible luck with wrist injuries that required multiple surgeries, is now hoping to take his form on to grass. He has had good results before, narrowing missing out on a place in the Wimbledon final in 2013, and winning an Olympic bronze medal a year earlier.

“I am very much looking forward to returning to the grass to play in the Fever-Tree Championships at The Queen’s Club,” said Del Potro. “2018 has been a very good start for me and I would love to continue playing my best tennis on grass. It is always a very strong player-field, so I am excited to start my grass season at this amazing tournament.”

Tournament Director Stephen Farrow, said: “The return of Juan Martin to the World’s Top 10 is one of the best stories in tennis. Everybody loves him – from his powerful, devastating game to the sporting way he carries himself and interacts with the crowd. He is the fourth Top 10 ranked player we have signed up so far, alongside Nadal, Cilic and Dimitrov. That’s before we start talking about Andy Murray, Nick Kyrgios, Denis Shapovalov and defending champion Feliciano Lopez, so we couldn’t be happier with how our player-field is shaping up.”

The tournament’s Centre Court capacity increased by more than 30% last year. The event will be covered throughout by BBC television, radio and online, by Amazon Prime Video for the first time and around the world in more than 40 countries.
