STUTTGART, April 27, 2018
Organizers of the MercedesCup in Stuttgart announced on Friday that local favourite Philipp Kohlschreiber will return to the venue of the Tennis Club Weissenhof for the 12th time.
“Stuttgart is a special tournament for me, which has developed very positively due to the change from clay to grass. The tennis fans always ensure a special atmosphere, so I can not imagine a better start to the grass-court season than the MercedesCup,” explains Kohlschreiber, who finished runner-up in Stuttgart two times.
The 34-year-old German appeared in the finals in 2013 as well as in 2016. With the exception of Rafael Nadal, Kohlschreiber is the only player, who advanced to the MercedesCup singles title match on both surfaces.
Kohlschreiber will be joined this year by fellow Germans Jan-Lennard Struff and Florian Mayer, who both announced to compete in the ATP World Tour 250 event. The young guns will be represented by Hyeon Chung, Nick Kyrgios, Denis Shapovalov and Taylor Fritz. Grigor Dimitrov, Gael Monfils and Feliciano López will also return to Stuttgart. The tournament will be held from 9 to 17 June 2018.
