The ATP Challenger tournament offers a total prize money of US-$ 100,000, being the third most important tournament in Spain’s men’s tennis calendar following the Mutua Madrid Open and the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell – Trofeo Conde de Godó.

The list of former champions of the hard-court event include the names of Rafael Nadal (2003), Feliciano López (2009), Fernando Verdasco (2007), Sergi Bruguera (2000), Emilio Sánchez Vicario (1990) or the Argentine Juan Martín del Potro (2006).

Tournament dircetor Virginia Ruano has assured that the Open Castilla y Leon – Villa de El Espinar is a reference tournament in Spain and stated that “in this year’s edition we will continue with the improvements of the facilities. We want that the spectators come to watch tennis and feel comfortable at the venue. We are a small tournament, but also very big at the same time.”
