Pavlasek Fights For Roma Garden Challenger Title

Adam Pavlasek is the champion of the €64,000 Roma Garden Open held on the clay courts of the Tennis Club Garden Roma. The unseeded Czech fought past the tournament’s No. 2 Laslo Djere of Serbia 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 in Saturday’s singles final.

In the longest ATP Challenger title match of the year, Pavlasek sent down eight aces, winning 75 per cent of his first service points. The World No. 245 broke his opponent three times to prevail after two hours and 49 minutes.

“I am very happy because it was a long match,” Pavlasek stated. “I already had three match points in the second set but finally I was the luckier one and I am very happy with this week here.”

The 23-year-old takes away €9,200 in prize money as well as 90 ATP Ranking points. Pavlasek is projected to rise 68 spots to World No. 177 on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies captured the doubles title with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-4 win over top seeded duo Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen from Belgium. The German tandem finished the encounter in one hour and 14 mintues.
