Teenager Mate Valkusz claimed the title of the first ITF Men’s Pro Circuit event held on Hungarian soil this season. The 19-year-old local favourite upset top-seed Filip Horansky of Slovakia 6-1, 6-3 in the Saturday’s singles final of the Zalaegerszeg Open. The $15,000 clay-court event was held at ZTE Tenisz Klub in Zalaegerszeg, the administrative center of Zala county in western Hungary.

Valkusz won 73 per cent of his first service points and converted five of his eight break point chances to secure victory in one hour and three minutes.

By lifting his second career trophy, the World No. 612 earns $1,944 in prize money as well as 18 ATP Ranking points. Valkusz wins the Futures event without dropping a set. His maiden title came in Porec, Croatia earlier this season. The Budapest native will stay in Hungary for two more weeks, competing in the $15,000 events in Zalaegerszeg and Balatonalmádi.
