Nils Langer is the new champion at Germany’s part of Lake Constance winning the sixth edition of the Überlingen Open. The tournament’s second-seed gained the title at the US-$ 10.000 ITF Future event through a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory in about two hours over 19-year-old Maximilian Marterer on Sunday.

In front of 800 spectators the world number 391 from Ludwigsburg capitalized on all of his four break points and only had some problems in the second set when the leftie from Nuremberg put a lot of pressure on Langer. Yet in the end, the more experienced player had the better ending with his more efficient game. The 24-year-old Langer won his sixth Future title, his second of the season after gaining the title at Corsica’s Ajaccio in June.

“I’m very happy that we could present another year of tennis at highest level. Spectators could enjoy the matches in good weather conditions and the players were also very pleased with the organisation as well as the ambience,” Überlingen Open tournament director Markus Dufner was satisfied with the week.

Marterer still has to wait for his maiden title on the tour. It was his fourth defeat in his fourth ITF Pro Circuit final. Nonetheless, the world number 590 showed a strong performance throughout the week in Überlingen by taking out the tournament’s third-seeded Sandro Ehrat in the quarterfinal before he advanced into the final with a three set-victory over former world number 46 Evgeny Korolev.

18-year-old Jan Choinski was more successful this weekend. After the world number 1447 from Koblenz had lost his first ITF Future final in Wetzlar last week against Yannik Hanfmann, he gained his first title this Saturday winning the US-$ 10.000 tournament in Huy, Belgium, against local favourite Julien Cagnina in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 7-6.
