STUTTGART, June 6, 2018
Organizers of the MercedesCup in Stuttgart announced on Wednesday that Tomas Berdych and Maximilian Marterer receive a wild card into the main draw of the ATP 250 grass-court event, held from 9 to 17 June 2018.
Marterer advanced to the stage of the last 16 at the French Open for the first time and is projected to rise to a new career high World No. 50 in the ATP rankings on Monday. The 22-year-old from Nürnberg will join fellow Germans Philipp Kohlschreiber, Mischa Zverev, Peter Gojowczyk and Jan-Lennard Struff at the Tennis Club Weisseenhof.
Berdych showed his class on grass by reaching the singles final in Wimbledon 2010. The 32-year-old Czech is currently ranked at World No. 20.
The tournament’s top seed will be Roger Federer, who is making his return to the courts after skipping the entire clay-court season. After a first-round bye, the Swiss Maestro will open his title bid on Wednesday.
