It was the tweet read around the world just past 7:30 p.m. in Paris Thursday night. Despite its inevitability, it’s one nobody wanted to see sent:

We regret to announce that, due to adverse weather conditions, the matches in progress have stopped and play will not resume today at Roland-Garros.

So, with play cancelled on Day 11 at Roland Garros at 7:30 p.m., it means that the two men’s quarterfinals in the upper half of the draw that began on Wednesday afternoon, matching defending 10-time champion Rafael Nadal against Diego Schwartzman on Court Philippe Chatrier and No. 3 seed Marin Cilic against No. 5 seed Juan Martín del Potro on Court Suzanne Lenglen, will be resumed on Thursday.

Players will return to their same courts at noon Thursday to complete their quarterfinal matches. It adds to an already crowded schedule, which includes both women’s semifinal matches. Following the completion of the Nadal-Schwartzman match on Court Philippe Chatrier, not before 3 p.m., No. 1 seed Simona Halep faces No. 3 seed Garbiñe Muguruza followed by No. 10 seed Sloane Stephens versus No. 13 seed Madison Keys.

• Schwartzman leads Nadal 6-4, 3-5 with Nadal serving at 30-15, two points away from serving out the second set and evening their match.Thus far, Nadal has been broken five times by Schwartzman and had both of his wrists taped by a trainer. By winning the 73-minute first set – in which he played fearless and hit 20 winners – the Argentine broke Nadal’s streak of 37 consecutive completed sets won at Roland Garros dating back to 2015. Schwartzman has never beaten Nadal in five previous career head-to-head meetings.

• Meanwhile, on Court Suzanne Lenglen, Cilic and del Potro are deadlocked at 5-all in a first-set tie-break. Down 3-5 in the tie-break, the Argentine drew even at 5-5 before play was suspended. Cilic has reached the final of two of the last three Grand Slams.
