Yannick Hanfmann wins his second ATP Challenger event in Shymkent.

SHYMKENT, June 12, 2018

Yannick Hanfmann clinched his second title on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning the Shymkent Challenger. The top seed of the $50,000 clay-court event in Kazakhstan fought past Roberto Cid Subervi from the Dominican Republic 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2 in Saturday’s singles final.

Hanfmann saved five of the nine break points he faced, capitalizing on five of his own to prevail after two hours and eight minutes.

“Shymkent has been a good place for me, as I also advanced to the final here last year,” Hanfmann commented. “I felt that it could turn out in a successful way again, as I like the conditions here. My coach Lucas Wolff and I had a great week here and it’s nice to end it with the title.”

By lifting his second Challenger trophy, following his triumph on home soil at the Wolffkran Open in Ismaning in November last year, Hanfmann takes away $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points.

“Hopefully I can go on like this next week,” Hanfmann said. The World No. 114 will be second favourite at the $50,000 Almaty Challenger facing fellow German Daniel Masur in the opening round.
