SANTA PONSA, June 21, 2018
Defending champion Anastasija Sevastova headlined Thursday’s second round action at the WTA Mallorca Open. The third seed from Latvia rallied past German qualifier Antonia Lottner 1-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Sevastova saved seven of the 10 break points she faced, capitalizing on five of her own to prevail in one hour and 31 minutes.
“I just stayed in there,” Sevastova said afterwards. “I had some chances to break her in the first set, but things just didn’t go my way, and she was serving very well. But I knew it was only one break in the second set, so I just stayed positive and somehow I got my chance.”
She will next take on Alja Tomljanovic of Australia, who beat Swedish qualifier Rebecca Peterson in straight sets.
