Ahead of the final weekend of the Gerry Weber Open, organizers of the ATP 500 grass-court event offered a positive summary of the tournament’s 26th edition. “The line-up has become stronger and stronger with players from all around the world. And we welcome spectators from all continents,” tournament director Ralf Weber announced on Saturday morning.

With 115,500 visitors, the audience interest stabilized at an “impressively high level,” said Weber. Fans secure their tickets earlier, as there has alreday been an increasing in demand for tickets for next year’s edition.

“The Gerry Weber Open has become a must-attend event,” Weber is pleased.

About 5,000 day tickets were sold to spectators from foreign countries, most of them come from Europe but fans from Egypt, Argentina, Australia or the United States also travelled to Westphalia.

Zverev, Thiem and young guns to return in 2019

Weber pointed out that the Germany’s biggest tennis event had already set the course for the sporting future due to the existing contracts with World No. 3 Alexander Zverev until 2020 and with French Open finalist Dominic Thiem until 2019.

“It has always been our philosophy that the stars of tomorrow will come to Halle,” said Weber. This includes #NextGenATP champion Hyeon Chung from South Korea, who will also compete in 2019, as well as Russia’s Karen Khachanov.

“I experienced Karen here at the tournament as an extraordinary character. Ambitious, friendly, intelligent. He has what it needs to reach the top 20 or even the top ten,” Weber said.

In a further announcement it was stated that the Gerry Weber Open has extended the contract with German TV-broadcaster ZDF through 2019. Next year’s tournament will be held from 15 to 23 June 2019.
