STARNBERG, June 30, 2018
Austria and Australia will meet for a fourth time in Davis Cup by BNP Paribas when they go head-to-head in the World Group play-offs on 14-16 September at the Messe Congress Graz.
The hosts can count on their best possible line-up, as Dominic Thiem announced to step into action. The World No. 7 could be joined by Gerald Melzer, Dennis Novak, Oliver Marach, Alexander Peya, Philipp Oswald, Jürgen Melzer and Sebastian Ofner.
“All of them gave a clear commitment to play,” Austria’s Davis Cup captain Stefan Koubek said. “So I’ll be spoiled for choice, as I can nominate only five players.”
Australia won their first and last meetings, in 1905 and 2005, respectively, with their most recent win coming on the grass of Sydney in 2005. Austria’s lone triumph came in Vienna back in 1989. All three of the previous clashes in this match-up have proved utterly one-sided – resulting in 5-0 victories.
Lleyton Hewitt‘s team are hoping to extend their five-year stay in the World Group, while Austria is looking to return to the top tier of the competition for the first time since 2013.
Tickets will be available from June 30 via OeTicket.
