BASTAD, July 13, 2018
Frenchman Corentin Moutet and Pedro Martínez of Spain will compete in Saturday’s singles final of the €43,000 Bastad Challenger.
Moutet, seeded third in Sweden, fought past Slovakian qualifier Filip Horansky 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 on Friday afternoon. The 19-year-old Paris native won three points more than his opponent to prevail after two hours and 14 minutes.
Martínez ended the successful run of local hero Mikael Ymer. The 21-year-old from Valencia capitalized on six of his seven break point chances to seal a 6-3, 6-4 victory in one hour and 34 minutes.
“I was nervous but I am happy to finish the match that way,” Martínez said. “I want to thank the crowd for following the match, which was really tough. I hope they will come out tomorrow as well.”
Martínez will play his first title match on the ATP Challenger Tour. Moutet is seeking his second trophy following his triumph on home soil in Brest last year. The pair will meet for the first time.
