Matthias Haim of Austria clinched his first title on the ITF Pro Circuit. The 20-year-old from Austria won the inaugural best wood Schneider Tennis Open in Bad Schussenried. Haim upset top seed Mario Vilella-Martínez of Spain in Sunday’s final of the $15,000 clay-court event.

The No. 7 seed capitalized on four of his seven break point chances to secure a 6-3, 6-4 victory in one hour and seven minutes. Haim takes away $2,160 in prize money as well as 18 ATP ranking points.

Haim, who practices close to Bad Schussenried in Dornbirn, Austria, finished runner-up to the 23-year-old Spaniard at the ITF-Futures in Telfs one week ago.

The location was also the reason, why Haim decided to play in Germany this week instead of continuing to compete at the clay-court swing in Austria. “I can meet my coaches and practice partners here,” Haim told Tennis TourTalk.

“It hasn’t been a very good season so far for me,” the new World No. 532 said. “I was sick, suffering from a persistent virus for a longer time and I wasn’t able to play. Since last week I have started to feel better and I hope that I will continue like this in the future.”
