The tournament’s favourites at the € 42,500 ATP Challenger in Recanati are still in a good shape, when the top-seeds advanced to the quarterfinals on Day 4.
First-seed Ricardas Berankis defeated David Guez, winning 6-4, 6-3. The world number 83 from Lithuania won 75% of his first service points and capitalized on four of nine break point chances to prevail after one hour and 25 minutes.
Berankis will face Salvatore Caruso in the quarterfinals, who beat Ilija Bozoljac, winning 6-3, 6-2. The world number 336 from Italy, saved the only break point he faced and capitalized on three of his own to close the match after one hour and11 minutes.
Second seed Ruben Bemelmans defeated Dzmitry Zhyrmont in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. The 27-year-old Belgian didn’t have to face a break point and capitalized on three of his own to prevail in 59 minutes.
Bemelmans will meet Mirza Basic next, who knocked out fifth seed Peter Gojowczyk, winning 7-6, 6-3. The 24-year-old from Bosnia-Herzegovina fired 13 aces and won 70% of his first service points to advance after one hour and 18 minutes.
