No.2 seed Fabio Fognini defeats top seed Juan Martin del Potro 6-4, 6-2 for his third ATP World Tour singles title of 2018 at the Abierto Mexicano de Tenis Mifel presentado por Cinemax.
The 31-year-old from Italy capitalized on all of his four break point opportunities in Saturday’s final in Los Cabos, prevailing after one hour and 19 minutes.

It is Fognini’s eighth career singles title, and his first off of clay. 2018 will be the first year Fognini wins over two singles titles in a season. He lifted the trophies in Sao Paulo and Bastad.
“It’s something strange because, of course, at the beginning of the week if you told me that we would be talking about titles… I am really happy, happy about this week, about my game. Of course it means a lot for me,” Fognini said and takes away $127,635 in prize money as well as 250 ATP-Ranking points.
Marcelo Arevalo from El Salvador and Mexican Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela took the doubles title. The No. 3 seeds defeated US-American Taylor Fritz and Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-4, 6-4 in the final. The encounter lasted one houra and 19 minutes.
