Four seeded players were in action on quarterfinals Friday at the € 42,500 ATP Challenger in Recanati.
Top-favourite Ricardas Berankis reached his second semi-finals of the season, following Wroclaw in February. The 25-year-old Lithuanian beat Salvatore Caruso, winning 6-1, 6-3. Berankis won 72% of his first service points to close the match after 65 minutes.
Berankis will take on Martin Fucsovics next. The eighth seeded Hungarian defeated Yannick Mertens through a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Fucsovics didn’t have to face a break point and capitalized on both he had on his own to advance after 65 minutes.
Mirza Basic knocked out second seed Ruben Bemelmans, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. The 24-year-old from Bosnia-Herzegovina won 76% of his first service points to seal victory in one hour and 49 minutes.
Basic will take on third seed Michal Przysiezny next. The world number 142 from Poland defeatd Joshua Milton, winning 6-3, 7-6. Przysiezny fired 15 aces and consequently won 72% of his first service points to close the match after one hour and 22 minutes.
