Kokkinakis Seals Singles And Doubles Trophy In Aptos

Twice the glory for Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Nordic Naturals Challenger. The 22-year-old Australian takes the singles as well as doubles title at the $100,000 ATP Challenger hard-court event at Seascape Sports Club in Aptos.

Kokkinakis beat #NextGenATP South African Lloyd Harris 6-2, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final. The youngster fired 12 aced, didn’t face a break point, converting four of his own to seal victory in one hour and seven minutes.

Following his triumph in Bordeaux 2015, Kokkinakis lifted his second trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour, earning $14,400 in prize money as well as 90 ATP-Ranking points. The Adelaide native has returned to the Top 200 on Monday.

Later in the day, Kokkinakis teamed up with fellow Australian Matt Reid to clinch the doubles crown. The unseeded duo upset the tournament’s No. 1 team of Jonny O’Mara and Joe Salisbury of Great Britain 6-2, 4-6, 10-8. The encounter lasted one hour and 17 minutes.

“This was fantastic,” Kokkinakis said. “Matt and I didn’t decide to pair up until the start of the tournament. This is a fantastic place for tennis, and there are really great people here.”
