ÜBERLINGEN, August 26, 2018

After lifting the trophies in St. Pölten and Santa Cristina Val Gardena, Peter Heller has won his third consecutive ITF Pro Circuit event. The 26-year-old German clinched the title of the Überlingen Open on Sunday. Heller defeated his compatriot Peter Torebko 6-3, 6-3 in the singles final.

The No. 3 seed from Cham converted four of his nine break point chances to prevail in one hour and 33 minutes.

“I’m overjoyed,” Heller stated after the match. It was the first success for the World No. 371 in the third meeting with Torebko. “My dad gave me some valuable tips yesterday after he had followed Peter’s match. I served well at the important points. That was the key to success.”

After 15 match wins in a row, you can confidently speak of a winning streak. “Things are going well. I feel physically extremely fit, I am injury free. I trained well during the winter months, had a good set-up and this seems to pay off right now,” Heller is satisfied.

New career high

$2,160 in prize money, 18 ATP World Ranking points as well as a new career high ranking on Monday sweeten the success. Asked about the previous tournament victories in St. Pölten and Santa Cristina Val Gardena, the player from Bavaria explains: “In Austria, I always feel very comfortable. We had great weather and it was a really great tournament. The event in South Tyrol took place at 1,400 meters altitude. But I managed to make that transition and it was a total of three perfect weeks.”

Later in the afternoon, Heller returned to the court at Lake Constance, teaming up with Johannes Haerteis in the doubles final. The German tandem lost to Alexander Merino of Peru and Christoph Negritu from Germany 6-3, 6-4. The encounter lasted 64 minutes.

Nonetheless, Heller will try to continue his excellent run of form at the $25,000 Futures event in Neuchâtel next week. “To break into the top 300 is my goal until the rest of the season,” Heller said.
